WALDEN
RESTORES PRIORY TO FORMER GLORY
Walden
Joinery has recently had its ability to recreate intricate
joinery put to the test. Dudley Town Council commissioned
them for the complete renovation of a 19th century window
that was severely damaged after a recent fire in Dudley Priory.
The 15ft by 10ft oak window, including its shutters, was painstakingly
removed from the building to avoid further damage to the charred
wood. Once back in the workshop at Walden Joinery their expert
joinery renovation team set to work in assessing the extent
of damage. They found whole pieces of the timber frame so
badly destroyed that renewal was essential. With the use of
drawings and photographs of the window prior to the fire they
could recreate the shapes and carving out of new oak that
would finally bring the window back to its former glory.
The
Priory, not far from Dudley Castle, was first founded by Lord
of Dudley in the 12th Century, and was closed by Henry VIII
in the 1530's. The ruins of The Priory were restored to their
current form, and the grounds became a park, during the 1930's.
The park is now a key attraction which can be found near the
centre of Dudley.
Walden
Joinery’s experience and ability to recreate period
styles identically is of paramount importance when working
on listed buildings such as Dudley Priory. They have earned
themselves a reputation in providing quality of workmanship
which has been recognised by leading Architects, Clients,
and Contractors throughout the construction industry. Their
small but highly skilled workforce uses a combination of traditional
skills and modern techniques to manufacture a wide variety
of bespoke products, for use in both the construction industry
and directly for domestic and commercial markets.
Walden
