WALDEN TURNS A NEW PAGE AT UNIVERSITY LIBRARY

Walden Joinery recently completed the manufacture and installation of a library at St. Antony's College, Oxford. One of seven graduate colleges at the University of Oxford, St Anthony's specialises in international studies and is home to over 400 students from 77 countries.    The library designed by architects Nexus, was created for the College's Russian Department and Walden carried out the work as sub-contractor to main contractor Knowles & Son (Oxford) Limited.

The project required precision accuracy in the construction on site of a timber frame which was then clad with panelling before the installation of purpose made oak library units, oak study tables and newspaper storage units on two floors.   Access to the mezzanine level is provided by means of an integral solid oak staircase.

Managing Director Nick Walden commented 'We are very proud to be associated with this prestigious project, the keys to which were firstly accuracy and secondly co-ordination and co-operation with the other trades who were working within the tight framework we constructed.   The result is quite simply stunning.'
